North Stars: Girls Flag Football

North High School Girls Flag Football Scrimmage

North Mustangs locking in during Saturday morning's live scrimmage.

"Tempo, tempo, tempo!" That single command cut through the morning air this past Saturday as North High School’s girls flag football team locked into a live scrimmage under new head coach Guy Fennell, putting their new era on full display. As star player Xxylina Flores (Sr) broke off a dazzling, high-speed run down the sideline, it was immediately clear that the Mustangs are not resting on the laurels of last year’s run to the state quarterfinals.

Fennell brings an uncompromising vision built on absolute accountability, demanding total investment from every athlete on the roster. It is a philosophy anchored by simple yet profound guidance:

"Stay consistent and things will work out for you."

That discipline is already translating onto the field. During Saturday's scrimmage, Jizzelle Escoffery (Sr) and Tahjie Freeman (So), better known as "TT," picked up right where they left off, flashing their usual deep downfield connections that defenses struggle to read. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, Sophia Casey (So) and Hazel Kutsko (So) completely locked down both the ground and air attacks.

Championship Aspirations

The ultimate question for this group is simple: How badly do they want it? Will they push themselves, remain disciplined, and make the sacrifices needed to accomplish the task at hand? Every player on this roster has made their answer clear, and their sights are set squarely on winning a state championship this season.
